Cancel Silver Account

Hi all. I know that there have been previous posts about canceling accounts, but I have an odd situation.

I had preregistered an account online before I got access to LIVE. Because it was already registered I was unable to use that Gamertag for my 1 month free Gold. I called LIVE and the guy I talked to told me to create a temp ID and use that for the free month.

Stupid me forgot to log out of my offline acct. before entering the Gold trial (temp) tag and inadvertently changed the tag for the ID that hold all my achievements and my score.

I was hoping that at the end of my trial period, once it's defaulted to Silver, it would be possible to cancel the temp acct. to make it an offline acct., then change it's tag to match my original registered tag. Clear as mud?

So, does this sound like a workable plan? Will my score and achievements be saved to my hard drive making this all possible?
