Question can somone please help me out?

I've connected to xbox live successfully in the past but now I'm unable to. I'm connecting the xbox360 directly to the modem with an ethernet cable. When i run a test it detects the network but fails when it attempts to connect to the internet.
I've searched the internet for solutions extensivley but none ive the suggestions fixed the problem.
so far Ive tired:
-switching the modem off then on again
-switching the xbox off then on again
-manually entering the Ip address, defalt gateway subnet mask and dns settings
-asigning an alternate mac adress
-leaving all of those settings in network config set to automatic
-combinations of automatic settings and manually entered ones
-turning everything off and waitng 24 hours before attempting it again

Nothing works!

Also, i know that theres nothing wrong with the modem itself because i can use it to connect to the internet on my PC without any problems.
please help me!

Does anyone know how i can fix this?

When you get your 360 to search for the network, is it finding it? do you need a network key?

Hi, I was on here last week with exactly the same problem and when I followed the guide on here in terms of the correct way to reboot, I thought I'd sorted it out but the problem has returned again. Sometimes the rebooting works and sometimes not. Sometimes when it does connect, we get thrown out. The console states that it can't connect with XBL but pc working fine online. (router/pc/xbox are all wired)
I have searched your FAQ but can't find a specific answer. Also, where you suggest going via the control panel/internet connection etc, I can't seem to find an identical page on vista as shown in your guide to ensure other users are allowed to access the net.
If there is a specific page on the guide that tells us what we need to check next then please could you post a link. (coolscooter - I knew I spoke to early!!!!) Thanks in anticipation of your help

Orange, are you connectin your Xbox directly to your modem? What sort of Internet connection do you have, DSL(cable) or ADSL (telephone type connection)?

Xboxidiot62, what make of router are you using(i can't remember!)? Are you sure it's compatible with Xbox?

Hi scooter. it's a Siemens Gigaset SE587. XBL has been working fine for months so I'm assuming the router is ok and compatible cos nothing about our pc set up has changed. Last night my boy connected 3 times and after 5/10 mins he got thrown out each time.
Thanks again for your interest.

This would appear to be your ISP I think. I used to have a Belkin router, and that would letm e sign into live, but as soon as I connected to a game server it would boot me out after 5 mins. I'm wondering if either your router has developed a malfunction, or your ISP are having problems. Is it possible for you to try a friends router to see if you have the same issues?

I'll try but naturally most people are using their routers so it's gonna be a bit tricky. The fact that it is so hit and miss is so frustrating. I'll see how it goes. However if you think I need to check any settings etc on the pc then let me know. Thanks again scooter

I don't think your PC is the problem. If that's staying connected when your Xbox is unable to connect then the issue is between XboxLive and your Xbox. The PC should make no difference.
